2021 Vacation Planning Tips

Your confirmation is complete and now the real planning begins.  We’re looking forward to welcoming you to God’s Country this coming travel season and we hope you’ll make the very best of the tips below.  As always, please feel free to contact us with any questions about your upcoming stay in the greater Good Hart/Cross Village area.

Get Familiar With Our Area
Good Hart and Cross Village are located in the far remote northwest corner of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula.  Our closest area for big box shopping is Petoskey where stores such as Walmart and Meijer are located.  Our closest hospital also exists in Petoskey, McLaren Northern Michigan.  Depending on time of year, a drive to Petoskey can take up to 45 minutes each way.  Sometimes it’s difficult for those visiting from suburban areas to understand our proximity to basic goods and services like grocery stores, etc.  Understanding our area and appreciating the beauty and tranquility will make for a more relaxing vacation sans unnecessary trips to “town” for goods which could have been packed in advance.

Plan Ahead for Meals
As noted above, a “quick trip” to the grocery store can use up a good deal of vacation time.  Be sure to consider in advance, meals and meal prep as to maximize your time at your vacation rental property.

Pack for Various Weather Conditions
Weather in the Midwest, particularly our area can change without notice.  We encourage all visitors to check the weather in advance and to prepare for a variety of weather conditions while here.  Foul weather gear, adequate layers to enjoy the great outdoors from morning to night, in addition to proper footwear for the beach and beyond.  Proper packing will ensure enjoyment no matter what weather conditions blow in or out during your vacation.

Bring Along Medications and Specialty Goods
Our preferred pharmacy is Kelbel’s in Harbor Springs.  That being said, we encourage renters to bring necessary medications and any specialty goods such as unique dietary products from home.

Respect Lake Michigan
Our spectacular Great Lakes feature 6 quadrillion gallons of the freshest water on the planet.  Although still and unassuming one minute, the chance for incredible wave action and an ocean like display of activity the next always exists.  Please be respectful of beautiful Lake Michigan and act with caution while enjoying any water sport activities.
